“Nine months after the ceasefire was declared, it is still not safe anywhere for Palestinians in Gaza,” says Thameen al-Kheetan, spokesperson for the UN human rights agency OHCHR.
He condemns the escalating violence by the Israeli military. At least 57 Palestinians are reported to have been killed between July 13 and 20.
The Israeli army says it has carried out several strikes on Gaza in recent days targeting Hamas and Islamic Jihad. It also reportedly attacked an arms depot, a weapons factory and a launch pad that posed a threat to Israeli forces.
But according to the UN, the attacks have targeted residential buildings, at least one tent sheltering internally displaced people and other densely populated areas.
