UN Committee: Israel's Warfare Resembles Genocide

Israel's war methods in Gaza are in line with what is considered genocide, according to a UN committee that investigates Israel's actions in the war and the development in, among other things, Gaza.

UN Committee: Israel's Warfare Resembles Genocide

Large numbers of civilian casualties have been claimed and life-threatening conditions have been intentionally inflicted on Palestinians in Gaza, writes the committee in a press release.

"Israel is causing intentional death, starvation, and serious harm by using starvation as a method of warfare and exercising collective punishment on the Palestinian population", it states in the press release.

The report covers the period between October 2023 and July 2024.

"By destroying vital water, sanitation, and food systems and polluting the environment, Israel has created a deadly mix of crises that will cause serious harm to future generations", writes the committee, which falls under the UN's human rights organization OHCHR.

The entire report will be presented on November 18.

The committee was established in 1968 by the UN General Assembly with a mandate to investigate the human rights situation for Palestinians in occupied areas. The committee has three member states: Malaysia, Senegal, and Sri Lanka.
