UN: Maintain peacekeeping forces in Lebanon after UNIFIL expires at end of the year

In a report to the UN Security Council, seen by AFP, Guterres proposes three different options for a new operation, ranging from just under 2,000 soldiers to more than 5,500, who would monitor the ceasefire and support Lebanon's regular army.

The peacekeeping operation currently consists of around 7,500 soldiers from almost 50 different countries, stationed in southern Lebanon.
