The need for help is enormous in Gaza, with widespread malnutrition and starvation. After the weekend's agreement on ceasefire, both the UN and the International Red Cross Committee (ICRC) are now urging Israel to open all border crossings.
The demand is made at a press conference in Geneva, where ICRC spokesperson Christian Cardon and Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the UN's humanitarian coordination organization Unocha, are participating.
Along the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip, there are two main border crossings: Erez in the north and Kerem Shalom in the east. In the south lies the Rafah border crossing to Egypt, whose Palestinian side is controlled by Israel.
