"Ullmark: We Have an Opportunity"

Thrown in right in the middle of the match against Finland. Now Tre Kronor's goalie Linus Ullmark hopes to play from the start in the last chance. We have an opportunity and meeting USA in the USA is pretty cool, he says.

The group final against the Americans will be played in his old hometown of Boston, where Ullmark spent three seasons and was named the NHL's best goalkeeper in 2023.

The national team went there directly after the loss to Finland.

It's going to be fun. I've been there before, so it's going to feel familiar, says Ullmark, now in Ottawa.

Sweden still has a chance to reach the final – but not on their own strength. Finland and Canada must draw in regular time in Monday's opening match for the chance to remain.

The 31-year-old Ullmark, born in Lugnvik in Kramfors municipality, was thrown into his Four Nations debut when Filip Gustavsson felt unwell after the first period against Finland on Saturday evening.

It's just trying to enjoy it as much as possible, a shame it had to be a loss, he says after the 3-4 overtime loss.

Uncertain about the winning goal

He has no clear idea about Mikael Granlund's decisive goal after 1.49 of overtime.

I don't know if it's a bad read by me or a good shot by him. It's hard to say. We'll look at it tomorrow with Anthon (Hansson, the national team's goalkeeper coach).

Linus Ullmark was seen as number one when Jacob Markström was injured, but around the same time, he himself suffered an injury just before Christmas.

He was out for over a month and only managed two matches with Ottawa before the tournament.

No, it's been relatively calm all the time. Right when it happens, you get a little worried, but when we sat down and went through things and looked at the X-rays, the pulse went down relatively quickly.

I could start speeding up slowly, and at the same time, the team played well, so there was no stress, he says.

"Fantastic opportunity"

The significance of the plan holding is great.

It's a huge honor to put on the Tre Kronor jersey, it's not often you get that opportunity. Playing Four Nations against the best is a fantastic chance.

Now he hopes that Tre Kronor can scrape their way to a final.

A lot can get better. We're not satisfied at all. It's a bit bumpy, it's a bit hasty, not that solid game, and we don't quite get the pace and pressure in it.

I think we're playing pretty good defensive play throughout, so we'll try to build on that, says Ullmark.

The table after 2 rounds: USA 6 points, Canada 2, Finland 2, Sweden 2.

Last round, Monday: Canada–Finland (19.00), Tuesday: Sweden–USA (02.00).

So Sweden reaches the final:

+ With a win in regular time against the USA, simultaneously with Finland and Canada playing a draw in regular time. Then Sweden's 5 points will be enough for second place. If Sweden ends up on the same points as Finland or Canada, the head-to-head meeting will decide, and Sweden has lost to both.

+ The final will be played in Boston on Friday night Swedish time.
