Carolina took control of the game early, and just before halftime the score was 2–0 to the home team. But Ottawa fought back with two goals in the second period, aided by a strong performance from Linus Ullmark in goal. The game eventually went into overtime.

In the second overtime period, Carolina took a 3–2 lead through Jordan Martinook.

Both Linus Ullmark and Carolina's Danish goalie Frederik Andersen played well in the game, saving 43 and 36 shots on goal respectively. Ullmark had a 93.6% save percentage.

Ottawa now trails Carolina 0–2 in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
