Ottawa came back from a 0–2 deficit to tie it 2–2 in the second period, and the game went into overtime.

In the first sudden-death period, strange scenes unfolded. Mark Jankowski scored on Ullmark during a delayed Ottawa penalty, but it was ultimately ruled offside. Instead, the home team was awarded a penalty, but Ullmark made the save.

However, on a penalty shot, Jordan Martinook got his revenge. At 13:53 of overtime, he scored the winning goal for Carolina, who now lead the series 2–0.
