"A Ukrainian law has been passed that guarantees the rights of national minorities without questioning the status of the Ukrainian language," a press release from parliament, the Rada, said, according to AFP.
The change in the law means that Hungary, which is concerned about the Hungarian-speaking minority in western Ukraine, now accepts that two more so-called negotiation clusters can soon be opened in Ukraine’s EU membership talks.
"I want to thank everyone on both sides, Hungarians and Ukrainians, experts and politicians, who made this possible," Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán said on her way to a meeting with her EU colleagues in Luxembourg.
