Buildings and critical infrastructure in several regions have been damaged in drone attacks, which, among other things, were carried out with Iranian drones of the Shahed type, according to the statement.
In the capital Kyiv, air raid sirens are said to have sounded for five hours during the night.
The Russian forces are now advancing significantly faster than they did throughout 2023, writes the American think tank American Institute for the Study of War ( ISW ) in an analysis. This refers to the development in, among other things, Donetsk, where Russia has had successes in recent weeks.
Approaching Kupjansk
On Tuesday, Russia claimed to have captured another village in eastern Ukraine, according to information from the Defense Ministry in Moscow.
This concerns Kopanky, located near Kupjansk in the Kharkiv region.
Russia also confirmed that it had detained a British man in Kursk, who had fought with Ukrainian soldiers there. The man is being held on suspicion of participating in "armed hostility", according to a statement from a local court.
Can carry nuclear weapons
The information comes at the same time as NATO countries' ambassadors are preparing to meet with Ukrainian representatives in Brussels to discuss last week's Russian attack with a new hypersonic robot.
The attack on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro is believed to have been carried out with a newly developed ballistic robot with nuclear weapons capability. The robot is said to have a slightly shorter range than a traditional intercontinental robot.
The launch of the new robot has been assessed as an escalation of the fighting. Russia also recently adopted a new nuclear doctrine where the threshold for using nuclear weapons has been lowered.
