A nationwide air alert was issued in Ukraine after Russian fighter jets fired high-speed weapons that can quickly reach large parts of the country.
Most of the attacks have been repelled, according to Ukraine's air force.
Main attack on Lutsk
The scope was the largest so far during the war, writes President Volodymyr Zelenskyj on X. The latest attack broke a previous Russian record from last week of 550 drones and missiles, reports AP.
"The main attack was directed against Lutsk. Damage has also been reported in the regions of Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Mykolajiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy and Chernihiv", he writes.
Buildings caught fire in Lutsk, but no one is said to have been killed, according to the city's mayor.
Several cities
Several Ukrainian cities were attacked by drones, including the capital Kyiv. A woman was injured in a drone attack in the suburb of Brovary just outside the capital, according to the local military administration.
During the attack, fighter jets took off in neighboring Poland to secure Polish airspace, according to Poland's defense forces.
In Russia, the governor of the Kursk region claims that three men, including at least one Russian soldier, were killed in a Ukrainian drone attack on a beach in the city of Kursk. Seven more people were injured, including a child. The governor claims it was an attack on a civilian target.
