Ukraine and the USA are "very close" to signing a mineral agreement, report several media outlets.

"Ukrainian and American teams are in the final stage of negotiations regarding the mineral agreement", confirms Ukraine's Vice Prime Minister Olha Stefanisjyna on X.

According to Stefanisjyna, the talks have been constructive.

"We hope that the leaders of the USA and Ukraine can sign and approve it in Washington as soon as possible", she writes.

The hope is that the agreement will secure the USA's continued support to Ukraine and the country's sovereignty towards Russia.

The USA is said to demand, within the framework of a potential agreement, access to Ukrainian earth metals worth 500 billion dollars. According to Washington, it is seen as payment for the support Ukraine has received from the USA in the war against Russia.
