”I hereby decide ... to let the decision from June 29, 2025, from Ukraine's national security and defense council come into force”, writes Zelenskyj.

Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, as well as Poland and Finland have all already left the treaty.

The Ottawa Convention prohibits all production, storage and use of personal mines.

This is a step that the reality of war has demanded for a long time. Russia is not a part of the convention, and uses many mines against our military and civilian population. We cannot remain bound by conditions, when the enemy has no restrictions, says parliament member Roman Kostenko according to the Ukrainian news agency RBC.

The next step is for Ukraine's parliament to also approve the decision to leave the treaty.
