Ukraine demands an apology from the international football association, Fifa. The reason: The Crimean peninsula in Ukraine was missing as part of the country on the map during the draw for the qualification for the World Championship 2026, reports Kyiv Independent.
"Fifa has not only acted in violation of international law but also supported Russian propaganda, war crimes, and the attack on Ukraine" writes Heorhij Tykhyj, spokesperson for Ukraine's Foreign Ministry on X.
Fifa says it is aware of the problem and has removed the map, but Ukraine demands, in a letter to Secretary-General Mathias Grafström, a public apology.
