Ukrainian authorities confirm that Russian invasion forces have broken through the Ukrainian defense in the Dnipropetrovsk region. The region is said to have been relatively spared from Russian land attacks earlier.
This is the first time Ukraine officially confirms the Russian advance within Dnipropetrovsk.
They have pushed in and battles are raging, said Viktor Tregubov, who is the spokesperson for the Ukrainian forces in Dnipropetrovsk.
Moscow has previously claimed that ground forces entered the region already in July and has since stated that several towns have been taken.
Ukraine's military staff denied on Tuesday claims that the towns of Zaporizke and Novogeorgiivka have been occupied.
Dnipropetrovsk, with the central town of Dnipro, is located in the southeastern part of the country, between Kharkiv and Odessa.
