"We have been informed that 272 Ghanaians are believed to have been lured into combat since 2022 and that an estimated 55 of them have been killed and two captured," writes Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on X after a visit to Kyiv.
Ghana will now try to raise awareness of, and take action against, illegal recruitment, the minister promises.
“We cannot allow our young people to be used as human shields,” he writes.
In recent weeks, several reports have emerged about how Russia has lured men from various African countries to the front lines in Ukraine by promising them other jobs.
Last week, Kenya's parliament said that more than 1,000 Kenyans had been drawn into Russia's war.
