Ukraine Approves 21 New Bridges After Russian Attacks Damage Kyiv Crossing

After a major road and rail bridge in Kyiv was damaged in a Russian attack, Ukraine’s transport minister says more bridges will be built as backups.

In total, the Ukrainian government has approved the construction of 21 new bridges over rivers, including the Dnieper, which runs through the Ukrainian capital.

Kyiv's bridges have been repeatedly attacked by Russian drones, paralyzing traffic and creating chaos in the city of three million people. On Tuesday, the South Bridge, an important artery carrying both a multi-lane highway and a subway line, was damaged. The bridge has been partially restored, according to Ukrainian media.

The first new bridges are due to be ready early next year, according to Transport Minister Mykola Kalashnyk. It is unclear what capacity they will have.
