Jermak says that he has spoken on the phone with Mike Waltz, security advisor to President Donald Trump during the day.
"We discussed the next step towards a just and lasting peace", says Jermak in a statement.
"We have planned a meeting for our teams in the near future to continue this important work", says Jermak further.
The announcement comes after Friday's failed meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyj in the Oval Office, which ended with the visiting Ukrainian delegation leaving the White House.
Since then, the atmosphere has been at least tense between the two leaders. Trump accuses Zelenskyj of not wanting peace and of sabotaging the Americans' proposals for a ceasefire in Ukraine. Zelenskyj has, on his part, repeatedly emphasized that Ukraine needs security guarantees for a lasting peace to become a reality.
