United Kingdom and four other countries impose sanctions on the Israeli ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich.

The background is the ministers' "repeated incitement to violence against Palestinian communities", writes the British government in a joint statement with Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Norway.

The Minister of Security and the right-wing politician Ben-Gvir and the ultra-nationalist Finance Minister Smotrich are charged with travel bans and will have their assets frozen. British financial institutions are also expected to be prohibited from maintaining contact with the two.

Scandalous, replies Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Saar at a press conference.

The sanctions resemble those imposed on some Russian representatives due to the war in Ukraine.

In May, several countries, including the UK, announced that concrete measures would be taken against Israel if the attack on Gaza did not cease and the blockade on the area was not lifted.
