The new suspicions were raised after a Channel 4 revelation last week. The investigation, in which the TV channel's journalists posed as American businessmen, shows how a senior Reform UK representative appears to discuss how the law could be circumvented to funnel money from the American financier to the party. Farage also attended the meeting.
British electoral law dictates that parties may only accept donations from British voters or companies registered in the UK.
"Investigators have assessed the information provided and determined that there are potential crimes that require investigation," the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
Farage's adviser Dan Jukes and the party's policy director James Orr have been suspended following the television revelation.
In a separate clip from Channel 4, Orr is seen discussing how the American financier could pay for opinion polls commissioned by the party.
Reform UK stated on Wednesday that they “deny any wrongdoing and will cooperate fully with the investigation.”
The party and Farage have previously been investigated for monetary donations that were received, without being reported, ahead of the 2024 parliamentary election.
