The investigation is being opened since the Irish rap trio has been accused of backing Hamas and Hezbollah and of inciting violence against politicians.
The two videos have been published online and have been sent to an investigation group focused on removing terror-related British material from the net. The investigation group "has established that there are grounds for further investigation of potential crimes linked to both videos", according to the London police.
Kneecap denies all allegations.
The group made an appearance during the Coachella festival in April, where the message "Fuck Israel, Free Palestine" was projected during the concert, simultaneously calling Israel's actions genocide. The concert led to angry reactions in conservative media and was condemned by the British government.
On the other hand, the group has not become less popular. The streaming of Kneecap's music has since Coachella.
