The caps must be replaced by a fake version to "meet today's ethical standards," 18 MPs from three different British parties wrote in a letter to Luke Pollard, the minister responsible for defence preparedness.
"While this process continues, bears are still being shot with crossbows and killed, their cubs are orphaned and their fur is used to make new hats," reads a passage from the letter, according to Sky News.
The hats, made from Canadian black bear fur, were introduced by the British Army after the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. They are worn today by the Royal Foot Guards who stand guard at Buckingham Palace and St. James's Palace.
