UK Man Sentenced to 25 Years for Mediterranean Human Trafficking

A human smuggler has been sentenced to 25 years in prison in the United Kingdom for organizing boat trips across the Mediterranean, reports BBC. In total, he has risked nearly 3,800 people's lives.

The 42-year-old man was born in Egypt and is resident in south-west London. He is believed to be the first person from the United Kingdom to be convicted of such a crime, according to BBC.

The human trafficking, with fishing boats that have traveled from North Africa to Italy, took place between October and June 2023. The United Kingdom's national police authority) began tracking the man after tips from Italian security authorities.
