Rescue workers in Andalusia initially thought it was an echo - it seemed impossible that anyone would have survived as the flames swept across the ravine. But it was a cry for help, reports Spanish RTVE.
There were two people, a couple, who had severe burns on around 40 percent of their bodies, Rafael Zea told the public service channel.
The couple from the UK had been out hiking when they were caught in the flames on Thursday. They are in intensive care, but their condition is not said to be life-threatening.
At least 13 people have died in the fire after a British woman succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, according to AFP.
Local authorities say the fire has been stabilised and that evacuated residents have been allowed to return home.
