United Kingdom, Germany and France want to resume nuclear energy talks with Iran and the USA, reports the news agency AFP.

This is announced by the countries in a joint statement:

"We are firmly determined to resume negotiations with Iran and the USA with the aim of reaching a comprehensive, lasting and verifiable agreement that ensures Iran never acquires nuclear weapons", it says in the statement.

The previous agreement was that Iran would limit its nuclear technology program and not acquire nuclear weapons in exchange for certain sanctions against the country being lifted.

The agreement failed after the President of the USA, Donald Trump, left it in 2018.
