The chair of the Culture Committee, Caroline Dinenage, will launch an investigation and summon people from the music industry and the public service broadcaster the BBC to hearings.

We want to get to the bottom of who selects our entry, on what grounds and whether our poor record in recent years is due to poor selection... or something else, she tells the BBC .

Despite the fact that the UK is a superpower in the pop world, British entries have in recent years been among the last in the Eurovision Song Contest, except for second place for Sam Ryder in 2022.

The United Kingdom does not organise its own version of Melodifestivalen, but the BBC selects the country's Eurovision entry on its own, but has had difficulty attracting well-known artists to the competition.
