The deceased, a four-and-a-half-year-old child, lived in the capital city of Kampala.

On Tuesday, Uganda reported that a total of ten cases of a Sudanese variant of Ebola had been registered in the ongoing outbreak, which was announced at the end of January. Among them was a 32-year-old nurse who died in the capital city.

On Saturday, the authorities announced that another positive case had been detected at the same hospital where the deceased nurse worked.

The spread of the infection was considered to be under control as recently as February 19. At that time, eight infected people had been treated and recovered, while an additional 250 people who had come into contact with the deceased nurse had been placed in quarantine for monitoring.

This is the sixth outbreak of the Sudanese variant of Ebola in Uganda, for which there is no approved vaccine. Uganda's previous Ebola outbreak, which ended in 2023, lasted for four months and claimed 55 lives.

Ebola is transmitted through bodily fluids. Common symptoms include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and bleeding.
