The Times reports that Uefa is lifting the boycott. Earlier this summer, the international football federation FIFA proposed selling shares in the World Cup, among other things, to private investors.
The proposal triggered a wave of criticism against FIFA President Gianni Infantino. Among other things, UEFA member countries agreed to boycott FIFA competitions if the plans were not stopped.
The proposal was later scrapped, and Uefa has now reportedly received assurances that Fifa will never again consider selling ownership stakes in the World Cup. According to The Times, the promise meant Uefa dropped the threat of a boycott.
The news is expected to become official after the UEFA Executive Committee meeting on Thursday.
