Uefa may change the qualification system for the European Championship and World Championship in the future. According to German Sport-Bild, there are plans to play the qualification as series matches according to the Champions League model.

The European football association Uefa's chairman Aleksander Ceferin revealed the plans at a football fair in Portugal earlier in October.

The qualifying matches may possibly look different. There will not be more matches, but a more interesting format. We are considering it right now, he says according to Sport-Bild.

Uefa believes that the new Champions League model, where a league has replaced the previous group stage, has been a success and given hotter matches.

Uefa plans to appoint a working group that will review the qualifying games and the final proposal must be approved by the executive committee.

However, Ceferin does not currently see any expansion of the number of teams in the European Championship finals, but it will also continue to be 24.

The World Championship next year has been expanded to 48 teams and it is being discussed to expand to 64 teams from 2030 onwards.
