A court in the United Arab Emirates has sentenced three Uzbeks to death for the murder of a rabbi. Another defendant has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Israeli-Moldovan rabbi Zvi Kogan disappeared and was later found dead in November last year. Three Uzbeks, aged 28 to 33, were arrested, suspected of the murder. He ran a food store in Dubai.
The federal appeals court says the murder was premeditated and a terrorist act.
Directly after the murder, suspicions were directed at Iran for involvement – which was denied by Tehran. The suspicion does not seem to have been taken up in the verdict.
The murdered Kogan was buried in Israel.
