"Iris," which Monet painted towards the end of his life, is valued at between 22 and 30 million euros, about 250-340 million kronor. It is "the highest valuation ever made for a painting offered at auction in France," according to Sotheby's.
The painting has been in the family home in Paris since Jeanne Schlumberger bought it. Three other Monet works are included in the auction, including “Saule pleureur” (“Weeping Willow”), which has also never been shown to the public and is valued at between 9 and 12 million euros, approximately 100-135 million kronor.
