Ammonia found in stairwell in Norrköping

A man and a woman were taken to hospital after ammonia was poured into a stairwell of an apartment building in Norrköping. The people were later able to leave the hospital.

The stairwell has been cleaned of the chemical, the head of information at the housing company that owns the building told P4 Östergötland .

The cordons around the apartment building were lifted at 3:30 a.m. The police have not said what liquid was found.

We have a good idea of what type of liquid it was, but I will not be able to give details because a preliminary investigation is underway, says police spokesperson Angelica Israelsson Silfver.

A man and a woman were taken to hospital after they reacted to the liquid.

They have been allowed to leave the hospital and they are unharmed, says Israelsson Silfver.

According to the police, there were no signs of smoke or fire and the apartment building was not evacuated during the incident. The emergency services reportedly ventilated the stairwell.

The police have worn protective masks during the case for safety reasons. There is no danger to the public or police personnel.

The incident is being investigated as attempted arson, but no suspects had been taken into custody as of Friday morning. The alarm was raised at 1:40 a.m. Friday night.

It is unclear whether there is any threat image against anyone at the address.
