They know each other in some way, but I won't go into any more detail than that, says police spokesman Filip Annas about the suspected deceased perpetrator's relationship with the children.

The girls were found in a villa, which has been cordoned off for forensic examination. The incident is being classified as attempted murder.

We are calling this an isolated incident; we are not looking for any more perpetrators.

The girls have been taken to hospital. One of them has life-threatening injuries, and the other has serious injuries, Region Kronoberg writes on its website.

The alarm was received by the police at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Large resources were deployed to find the perpetrator and in the meantime people in the vicinity were asked to stay indoors so as not to disturb the police dogs' search. A couple of hours later, the police announced that they had found the suspect, a man, dead next to the home.

Police technicians have conducted an investigation at the scene.

The material collected will be compiled and further analyzed. Then interrogations will be held, says Annas.

The Swedish Church in Alvesta is open due to Saturday's violent incident. Martin Wikerstål, priest at Alvesta Old Church, says that among those who visited the church are people of the same age as the two girls who were injured.

Two of their friends are injured, so they need to meet each other, says Wikerstål.
