The bomb that detonated early in the morning on September 28 consisted of a microwave oven filled with 13 kilos of dynamite. The device had been placed between two villas in Fullerö, north of Uppsala, and the explosion was very powerful.
In one of the houses lived a family with ties to gang leader Rawa Majid, and it was against them that the bomb is believed to have been directed. However, the family was not at home when the explosion occurred.
In the other villa, a 24-year-old woman was sleeping on the ground floor. She suffered such severe injuries in the explosion that she died.
Lifetime Imprisonment for 23-Year-Old
A 23-year-old man who placed the bomb has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
The case also involves two powerful bombings a few days earlier, in Hässelby and Linköping. The 23-year-old has also been convicted of placing and detonating those bombs. In addition to murder, he has been convicted of eleven counts of attempted murder and three counts of aggravated general endangerment.
A man who was involved in both the Hässelby and Linköping bombings has also been sentenced to life imprisonment. He has been convicted of seven counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated general endangerment.
Enormous Destruction
"These are three very serious incidents that have caused enormous destruction of property and, not least, great danger to many people. A young woman has died, and there was a risk that many other people would also die. The penalty value is so high that it is excluded from any other sentence than life imprisonment for these two individuals," says Maria Hallqvist, chief councilor, in a comment.
All the bombings are linked to a conflict within the criminal Foxtrot network and have been directed against individuals who, in a remote way, are believed to have been connected to Rawa Majid's side.
A third person, who was 19 years old at the time of the crimes, has been convicted, among other things, of manufacturing or otherwise handling the three bombs, to imprisonment for nine and a half years.
A fourth man has been convicted of participating in the transportation of the bomb that killed the woman, to imprisonment for six years and four months. Furthermore, a 17-year-old has been sentenced to closed youth care for involvement in the bombing in Linköping.
Three defendants have been fully acquitted.
