Two Russian figure skaters have been cleared by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to compete in next year's Winter Olympics, the Russian state-controlled news agency Tass reports, according to Aftonbladet.

It is Adeliya Petrosjan, 18, and Pjotr Gumenik, 23, who will compete under a neutral flag in the Olympics.

Petrosjan has become Russian champion twice and Gumenik has a silver and a bronze at the domestic championship.

To compete under a neutral flag, athletes from Russia and Belarus must not have actively supported the war or have connections to their countries' militaries. They must then be approved by the IOC.

In October, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (Fis) refused to lift the suspension of skiers from Russia and Belarus that had been in place since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The Russian Ski Federation reacted with anger and has appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

The Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina run from February 6–22.
