A boy under 15 years old died and another was seriously injured after being shot in a stairwell on New Year's Eve evening.
The prosecutor's opinion is that the shooting was not intentional, based on the information she has received from the individuals involved.
Someone or some people were playing with the weapon and a shot was fired in connection with the play, if you can call it that, and unfortunately hit two people, says prosecutor Caroline Carlquist to TT.
Two people were arrested on Saturday, suspected of the shooting. An 18-year-old man was arrested for causing another person's death, causing bodily harm, and serious weapons offenses. The other person, a 16-year-old boy, was arrested for serious weapons offenses and serious protection of a criminal.
In total, five young men between 15 and 20 years old, of whom three are under 18, have been detained on suspicion of the crime. Three of the individuals have been released, but the suspicions against them remain.
But they will likely be dropped. There is nothing in the investigation that suggests they were involved in handling the weapon, says Caroline Carlquist.
All suspects are from Malmö and are acquaintances, either relatives or friends. Some of the individuals are also known to the police from before.
Several of them have been convicted of crimes, but not of this caliber.
