The two men were rescued in the Pacific Ocean on Wednesday, more than 20 miles off the coast of southern Mexico, Mexican media and CNN in the United States report.

They were reported missing on Friday last week, after fellow fishermen lost contact with them.

The Mexican Navy searched with boats and aircraft and finally found a square, turquoise box bobbing in the ocean waves with the two men inside. The box is used to cool large quantities of fish on fishing boats.

"We didn't think we would survive these days," one of the men says in a video clip posted by the navy, in which he says they had neither food nor water in the box.
