The treasure, which consists of around 100 Arab silver coins, a braided necklace, other jewellery and a number of cut silver pieces, has been described as unique. According to the indictment, it was found near a church in Jönköping in 2018 by two men who were searching with a metal detector - which is not permitted.
The finders then tried to sell the treasure and it was not until November 2024 that it was handed in. Now they are both being charged with an aggravated antiquities crime.
A third person suspected of trying to help with the sale is also charged with an aggravated antiquities crime or with aiding and abetting the same crime.
