Two men have been sentenced to life imprisonment for involvement in the murder of the Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in 2017.

The men are sentenced for having delivered the car bomb that killed the 53-year-old investigative journalist.

The murder triggered widespread protests that led to Prime Minister Joseph Muscat later being forced to resign. An investigation also held the then government responsible for among other things neglect, as they had not taken the threats against the journalist seriously.

Two brothers were sentenced in 2022 for having placed the car bomb. They were sentenced to 40 years in prison each.

Another man was convicted of murder in a trial in 2021 and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Even the Maltese businessman Yorgen Fenech is waiting for trial for involvement in the murder.
