The affair was discovered thanks to material found during a murder investigation a few years ago.
Several people have previously been convicted of various crimes, including a person who was identified as one of the main perpetrators. The former store owner was sentenced to six years and six months in prison for repeated child rape.
"The majority of the sexual crimes that the district court convicted the store owner of took place on the store's premises on various occasions over several years," says Lotten Karlén, chief counsel at Borås District Court, in a press release.
Subjected to abuse
One of the victims in the case is an almost 20-year-old man who was convicted in the fall of 2024 of murdering a woman of the same age.
It was during that murder investigation that it was discovered that the young man and his sister had been subjected to long-term abuse. Dagens Nyheter has reported that the signs of the siblings' vulnerability did not lead to any intervention from society – not until the young man himself became a murder suspect.
The father is sentenced
Now the children's father - who has previously been convicted of aggravated child rape - is being sentenced for new crimes. He is being sentenced to three years and three months in prison for, among other things, child rape and aggravated sexual assault.
Prosecutor Sofia Bryngelsson says she is partly satisfied with the verdict. She says it is good that the district court convicted most of the crimes in the indictment. But she is not satisfied that some crimes in the verdict are not classified as serious. Sofia Bryngelsson also wants the two men to be sentenced to longer prison terms.
"We will appeal," she says.
The evidence includes chats, videos and audio recordings seized from the store owner. In addition to pictures of the two children, who were then minors, large amounts of child pornography were also found.
"The investigation clearly shows that it is the store owner who used the computers, telephones and other electronic equipment that the police found. It is also proven that he was fully aware of what was on the various devices," says Councilor Frida Barrstrand.
