On October 11, police were called to Wakefield Prison in the United Kingdom after an alarm about a fellow inmate allegedly attacking Watkins. The singer was declared dead at the scene.
Now, two men, 25 and 43 years old, are being prosecuted for murder at Leeds Magistrate's Court.
Ian Watkins had been serving a 29-year sentence since 2013 for sexual abuse of children, including the rape of an infant. In 2017, it was revealed that he had attempted to groom a new victim outside the prison and in 2019, his prison sentence was extended after he had hidden a mobile phone in his rectum.
Watkins had been attacked by other inmates on several occasions during his time in prison, including in 2024 when he was stabbed with a sharpened toilet brush.
