Police have secured the scene, but are still urging the public to stay away, Toronto police wrote on X.
The perpetrator or perpetrators are still at large after the shooting, which occurred on Saturday evening local time.
Doug Ford, premier of Ontario, says he is “devastated”:
"My thoughts go out to the victims, their families and all those affected," Ford writes on X.
Canada has been hit by several fatal shootings this year. In June, a police officer and a civilian were killed, as well as the perpetrator, in a shooting in Montreal. In February, nine people, including the shooter, were killed in an attack that targeted a school in the small town of Tumbler Ridge.
