The shooting was reported around 6 p.m. local time. According to a local fire department spokesperson, one person is seriously injured, NBC News reports. Among the injured is a two-year-old child.
Seattle police are asking the public to stay away from the area around Seattle Center, where the popular tourist attraction the Space Needle is located.
An annual food festival, which according to its website attracts around 350,000 people over three days, was taking place at the site and panic broke out among visitors when the shots were heard.
"I saw families running and screaming," a witness told Komo's reporter.
According to CNN, several law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are on the scene. It is unclear if anyone has been arrested.
