Two men in their 20-25 years old were shot dead in Gothenburg on Monday evening. A third man was in the company of the men, but was not hit.
We have an old gang conflict in Biskopsgården and it is naturally one of the theories we are looking at, says local police area chief Daniel Norlander.
Police in the area
The alarm about the shooting came in just before midnight. A large police operation was initiated, the perpetrator is still at large.
We have no one arrested and no suspect, says Daniel Norlander.
Residents have testified that there were many police in the area before the incident, but Daniel Norlander does not want to comment on whether the police knew about the murder plans.
A lot of information is coming in to the police continuously, especially regarding these gang conflicts, but I cannot comment on whether we had any specific information right now.
One of the now deceased managed to seek help from a friend who lives nearby after the shooting. According to TV4, the man collapsed outside the apartment door before the police arrived at the scene.
According to information to Aftonbladet, the police theory is that the murdered men were not the targets of the shooting. But it is nothing that the police want to go into.
We have chosen not to comment on the circumstances surrounding the incident at all in the initial stage, says police press spokesperson Christian Brattgård.
Several shootings
The third person, a man in his 30s, escaped unharmed. He has been questioned by the police.
The shooting took place in connection with a parking lot. Two cars that were hit by bullets have been seized for technical examination. The police will also investigate whether the incident was caught on camera.
Since 2012, around 15 people have been murdered and a large number have been subjected to serious violent crimes, writes Göteborgs-Posten. As recently as March 29, a 20-year-old man was shot and injured in Flatås, which is linked to the gang conflict.
Since the turn of the year, there have been at least three shootings in the Gothenburg area. Additionally, there have been eight explosions – some very powerful and several at apartment buildings.
