Rakell's second goal, ten seconds into the third period, meant 5–5 and took the match to overtime.

Well, there another Swede made sure to get the last word – already after a minute, Nylander sent the puck in, giving Toronto the extra points. It was Nylander's 35th goal this season and his 252nd in his NHL career.

He is now 10th on Toronto's list of top scorers of all time. The list is topped by Mats Sundin.

Erik Karlsson recorded two assists for Pittsburgh and Nylander added another personal point as he set up Conor Timmins' 2–0 goal. Pontus Holmberg also assisted on that goal.

In the seesaw match, both teams led twice before Nylander decided the outcome.
