Elias Pettersson had not scored a goal in the NHL in just over two months before the game against the reigning Stanley Cup champions.
But then he struck - and scored to make it 1–0 and 2–1 in the first period. Vancouver eventually won 5–2 and Pettersson was named the game's first star. His second goal of the game also brought his NHL career total to 200 goals in 530 games.
Pettersson, 27, had his best NHL season three years ago when he scored 39 goals and totaled 102 points. This season, he has 40 points (15 goals and 25 assists) after 59 games.
