The police in Cyprus found two bodies in a burnt-out car on Thursday, after a extensive fire ravaged a 100 square kilometer large forest area.

The fire has destroyed many homes and forced a dozen villages to be evacuated. Firefighters are still fighting against several flaring fire centers and the winds are expected to increase during the day. It is mainly the area around the city of Limassol, in the southern part of the island, that has been affected.

Over 100 people who have been evacuated are being given temporary housing in emergency homes, according to Cypriot media. Cyprus has been in a heightened state of alert for fires this summer after three dry winters in a row.
