The two people were skiing off-piste in a ski area in South Tyrol, Hufvudstadsbladet reports, citing Italian Rai News.
Rescue personnel, who had been alerted to another avalanche, flew over the area by helicopter and saw a person digging out the two people who had been buried in the snow.
When the rescue operation got underway, the two people were quickly located. But when they were dug out of the snow - one was under 60 centimeters of snow and the other under one and a half meters - they were already dead.
