After searching five homes and three industrial premises in Seville, police seized 256 animals. Among them are steppe monitor lizards from sub-Saharan Africa, red-eyed leaf frogs from the rainforests of South America, and a rare albino iguana prized by collectors.

In addition, police found 61 dogs and 28 cats believed to have been bred for illegal trade.

Police suspect the group enlisted employees at delivery companies to facilitate transport of the animals.
