Two young men have been detained after an explosion in Vännäs in Västerbotten on Friday evening. One of them was injured when the object detonated. Now we will investigate what has happened, says the police's press spokesperson Marie Andersson.

It was at 22:00 when the police were alerted that a man in his 20s was injured in an explosion.

What has exploded is not clear, but the man was taken to hospital and later deprived of his liberty. He is suspected of preparation for general dangerous destruction and crime against the law on flammable or explosive goods.

Later during the night, another man was also deprived of his liberty, suspected of a crime against the law on flammable and explosive goods. He is in his 18s, according to the on-call prosecutor.

Both men are detained after questioning during Saturday.

According to initial information, the explosion occurred outdoors in the terrain. According to the police, there is nothing to suggest that the explosion was directed at any person.

It has not happened against any residence or so, says Marie Andersson.

Whether there are any suspected gang connections, or why the man in his 20s is suspected of preparation for general dangerous destruction, the on-call prosecutor does not want to answer.

The crime scene has been cordoned off and will be examined.

At the latest on Tuesday, the prosecutor will make a decision on whether the detained should be arrested.
