19 people were banned from libraries last year, Magasin K reports. That is double the number from the previous year.

The law on access bans was expanded to also apply to libraries on July 1, 2022. That year, three people were barred and in 2023 seven people were barred.

In 2024, the number increased to ten people and last year prosecutors made decisions on entry bans in 19 cases, according to Magasin K, which requested statistics from the Swedish Prosecution Authority.

"These are societal problems that move into libraries because they remain open to everyone when other places close," says Anna Troberg, chairwoman of the DIK union, to the newspaper.
