It may be worth remembering the name Yu Zidi. The 12-year-old Chinese has become a sensation in the swimming world after her performance in the national championships in Shenzhen.
Yu's time on 200 meters medley (2.10,63) on Sunday is the fastest ever in that age, gave a second place in the race, and was just under the qualifying limit to the World Championship in Singapore in the July-August shift.
For comparison, the time would have been enough for a semifinal spot in the Olympic Games in Paris last year.
Whether it will be a World Championship participation for Yu Zidi, who turns 13 in October, is still unclear. China's swimming federation says to AFP that they will wait until after the Chinese championships, which end on Saturday, before they decide on the definitive World Championship squad.
